Things you should not expect from your partner

This is the season for relationship tips on my blog 

If you think that marriage would make you happy, please don’t get into a relationship until you let go of those thoughts. Remember this, Joy is choice, a responsibility and a sign of maturity. Nobody not even your partner should be in control of your joy. You should be the pilot, sailor and driver of your joy. Also remember that your partner is not a comedian or an entertainer. 

Secondly, don’t build unrealistic expectations around the institution of marriage. As far as your partner is a human being, he would make mistakes and fall short of your expectations. Life itself is an imperfect experience only made perfect as we journey with Christ. One day you may seat at home and ask God some questions about your decision to settle with your partner. Don’t be perturbed, it is part of the process. 

Also, don’t marry because you are looking for a financial plan. Your partner is not a financial plan for your journey through life. These unrealistic expectations have a way of distorting the entire picture of marriage. Get married for the right reasons such as friendship, companionship and partnership in the fulfillment of purpose. Before you get married, get something doing or make places towards getting a hand work.
